Default Smoking on Cruises

A travel agent in St Louis told me there is going to be no smoking on
any ship by the first of the year. Has anyone else heard that?

Hi Miss Ellie,

You must have misunderstood the travel agent. There has not been nor
will there be any such announcement.

Best regards,
Ray

Default Smoking on Cruises

A Carnival cruise line representative mentioned to me that they
operated a cruise ship that was exclusively non smoking ~1997. They
could not keep the boat booked so they abandoned the non smoking
policy in favor of bookings. I wonder how this would work today. My
money would be on the non smoking boats.

How do you know nobody cares? Sometimes the stench can't be traced and
if you are smoking in an allowed area, what can people who object do?

In his (and our) dreams.
Although the Carnival experiment with a non-smoking ship didn't work 10
years ago, I wonder if it would now.
I'm surprised, as an alternative, that the cruise lines have never tied a
"no smoking" theme on alternate departure dates of their routine 7/10/14-day
pop[lar runs such as Akaska, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera....

I don't know if it will or won't work. But I can say that since the 1st
of the year, after the smoking bans went in place in Illinois, our local
bars and restaurants are reporting a 20% decrease in business.

And the casino layed off quite a few that they said was because of the
no smoking rules.

Hi Lloyd

Rest assured that will be a temporary situation. We have had a total ban on
smoking in public buildings here for several years and the pubs and bars are
just as busy now as they ever were.

The smoking public, including our son, just go outside when they feel they
need a smoke.

The bars and restaurants in my area have gained business since smoking
was banned.
