IAD-FRA-BAH

Will I have to claim luggage, clear customs and recheck luggage before going
on to Bahrain?

I will also check with the airlines but thought this group might reply
faster than the airlines.

What kind of ticket do you have? And I mean TICKET, not reservation. If
you have one ticket covering the whole journey I would expect you to check
in at IAD and pick the bag up again at BAH. There will be security at FRA
but no immigration or customs (under normal circumstances). But if you
have one ticket IAD/FRA and a separate ticket FRA/BAH that's two separate
contracts so you'll have to go through ALL the rigmarole at FRA.
