Following up to Earl Evleth

Any suggestions? By seafood platter I don't means a selection of deep fried
stuff, but cold, some raw, seafood, oysters, crab, etc.

neither do I.

It's just another city as far as I'm concerned. I had a nice time there but
I wasn't enthralled by it.

... Oh please. Paris is nice, so are lots of places. I'd rather be in

Go ahead, vinegar-chips, say aloud that I don't have the right to have an opinion!

I ended up positively disliking it, especially some of the locals.

They were just normal city folk to me, I found them helpful and friendly
enough. I dislike the Viennese more.

I didn't find anyone in Viennese restaurants/hotels etc. unpleasant, but
they were probably mostly Croatian or from somewhere else! I was
surprised at the friendliness in a couple of cases. For example, having
a beer in the gardens at Schloss Schoenbrunn, and the guy running the
kiosk (a local, who'd already made the sale after all) wanted to chat
about the weather (it had been raining a lot) for a good 15 minutes!

In general, it's not really fair to compare the attitude of people in
capital (or very large) cities to the country in general. Londoners have
a reputation for being ruder than in other parts of the country, for
example. It's sometimes an unfair stereotype, but there is a grain of
truth.

I do know quite a few Viennese composers, and they are all quite lovely
people!

I find the large ones are hard to cook, over grilling
will make the flesh a bit rubbery. Also, the "sauce"
is usually just melted butter and uninteresting.

Though I wouldn't have it like that all the time, plain melted butter is
often pretty good with lobster.

As for taste, I remember in the US having a lobster
in a black bean sauce at Chinese restaurants which
was generally pretty good.

The black bean sauces can be pretty good (I like them with scallops too)
but it's quite possible there would be MSG in it.

Almost certainly. :-)

Obviously there *are* nice people in Vienna - I find them on the whole a
bit brusque. But now I have developed that stereotype opinion of them, I
seem to see it more. A case of you'll find what you are looking for,
perhaps.
