Default Any gay-friendly countries in the Middle East?

Dear All,

I've been itching to get out of China for a holiday. I've always been
fascinated with the Middle East. Does anyone have any suggestions for
gay-friendly countries/cities/clubs in the Middle East. I'm especially
interested in Turkey.

cheers guys,

Murry Greasley

The whole of the Middle East is known for its gay-friendliness. You'll
be particularly at ease in Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Irony aside, Israel probably has the best scene of anywhere in that
area.

Beirut too?

Not any more, from what I hear.

Irony aside, Israel probably has the best scene of anywhere in that
area. Turkey (from what I hear) is fine in big cities like Istanbul.
Otherwise, if a man is going to the middle east looking for gay sex,
it's probably very easy. If they are looking for any semblance of a gay
scene as they would know it in certain other developed countries...
forget it. I don't know the situation for lesbians- most everywhere
tends to try and pretend they don't exist.

I'm told the main advantage in Turkey is legality, which takes a lot of the
stress away.

Indeed it does.

My sources tell me Jordan and Syria turn mostly a blind eye,
but it helps to know people in the life there.

Most of the countries will turn a blind eye, but that's not the same
thing has having a scene. Countries like Iran will execute you if it's
expedient, because that kind of thing turns some people on there.

People at a gay club in Cairo in the late 90s probably thought that
authorities were turning a blind eye- until they were all arrested.

Only Israel has a scene in any meaningful way, and that's a tiny tiny
little part of the middle east. It was ironic that when an offshoot of
conservative (anti-gay) Anglicans had a conference in Jerusalem
recently, it coincided with gay pride! There's a funny video interview
on the BBC with one of the Anglicans being interviewed with a pride
parade in the background.
