Default Germany : Ride a 100 year old Monorail

A little known city in Germany called Wuppertal (Near cologne, north of
Frankfurt) is home to an interesting monorail.
Called the 'Schwebebahn', this monorail has been in operation for over
100 years. As a public transportation system it serves over 20 million
customer per year.
If you travel to Germany, you should plan to stop by and see, or better,
ride this train. Ah yes, and the city, located in a valley in the lower
hill country of western Germany is well worth a visit too.

For some more details and lots of photos go to http://schwebebahn.com
The site is in German AND English.

Too bad the site doesn't have the old news photo of the elephant
jumping from the monorail into the Wupper River.

It's a question of copyrights!

All photos on the site are from the respective photographers
with a proper release.

If you have any photos of the schwebebahn, we would like
to add them to our exhibition!

Regards,

Peter

Is this the one that was featured in the movie Fahrenheit 451?

Wasn't that in Wim Wender's "Alice In The Cities"?

Too bad it doesn't have a picture of Marshall McLuhan sniffing his sock
.... Timothy Leary would have paid real money for that ....
