Ahem, Bob, please let me refresh your memory, as * I * was the person you flamed with your shorts post. Here is the exchange in its entirety: snip yes, but I didn't actually mention shorts per se, so I'm still right in not having specifically brought up shorts. I'm happy to take your current back-pedaling as an apology. Not backpeddling, just clarification. 8*) Ok .... I'll drop my shorts .... Bob T. |

In your case, the short answer might just be: YES. Odd. I just read one of your message in which you alluded to the "manners and courtesy" which goes with those who dress up. Apparently you didn't read your last message. Mmm, yes. I think I said: In your case, the short answer might just be: YES. Other diners might have a more civilized evening if you are not there to call them penguins. If that means you might be exiled, well....let me think: yeah, OK. |

So now I'm faced with yet another expense that wasn't budgeted for! The fine print always gets you. Especially when it's not printed. Ahhh ... but in this case it *was* printed ! A specific statement that "all onboard gratuities are included". As this amounts to around $364 AUD it effectively means I'm being ripped off for that amount. I shall be having words to the company, who say that it was an oversight and shouldn't have been in the brochure. Unfortunately for you, since the line doesn't actually do business in Australia, your consumer protection laws won't help. This has all the flavor of a bait & switch. You should probably talk to your agent and encourage them to not do any more business with the line. Tell all your friends. And tell the line you are blackballing them. It may not help, but they may rollover for you to get you to shutup and be a "good boy". No guarntees. This isn't a case of live and learn, though. After all ... think of the jacket I could have bought with that money! Sounds like you could have bought that tux. :-) 8*) Bob T. -- dillon When I was a kid, I thought the angel's name was Hark and the horse's name was Bob. |

If only they were "independant", but from all the posts here it seems that they are reluctant to allow independence of choice on this issue. That's all I ask for really, the right to travel casually without being forced into someone else's mold - not a big ask if you ask me. After all, I've never suggested banning formal clothing. I still say they're independent. I'm interested in the "social life" and will dress in a suit, but wholeheartedly support your decision to interpret "formal" differently. -- bicker® http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/D...ry_040602.html |

It has nothing to do with snobbery. It relates to manners and courtesy. Unfortunately, wearing a suit does not guarantee either manners or courtesy. Dressing up has no relationship with either. Following the dress code, on a cruise ship, at a wedding or going out to dinner does show manners and courtesy. sue |
