Hi Everyone,

I saw this report regarding an accident on the Costa Europa and
thought it would be of interest.

another victim of winds. As the ships get bigger and the wind impacted
surfaces getting larger this will happen more and more. We had
reports of another ship in Caribbean recently getting a gash in the
side from a wind gust. Look for more.

What is large ship size in your opinion Joseph? The Europa was 53,872tons Which
is not huge by any of todays standards. About 800' long I believe.

Clay, I was not commneting on the size of a former Holland
America/Homeric ship, I was noting that they get bigger and wind has
always been an issue. I was onboard the (then) Radisson Seven Seas
Navigator in Boston when we were pinned to the dock requiring two tugs
and the better part of a half an hour to get underway.

So that is the problem under the old style. Now we have floating wind
sail issues that dwarf those entirely. We can expect more docking
accidents not less.
