What's your biggest pet peeve when cruising?
"Boomer" wrote:
Second peeve is *pokes* at the buffet line who hold up the entire line trying to decide what they want...they at least should tell the person (s) behind them to pass and go ahead of them. --Jean I'm with you Jean but I now just walk around them & ignore the dirty looks. I can't waste time waiting for the "old timers" to decide whether they want peas or carrots. On one ship, the buffet line moved right along because it was well set up so that it did. On another ship, I tried that, but I'm somewhat athletically challenged and it resulted in my dumping the sparse contents of my tray on the floor, and the old(er) person making nasty comments. I dealt with that my not eating at the buffet if I could possibly avoid it. Because I don't like standing in line. |

George Leppla wrote: Pet Peeves... 1) Cruise lines that schedule Bingo in the main show lounge before every show so you have to sit through that while waiting... or get there early because the Bingo players have the best seats. You just reminded me of one of my pet peeves..... I hate it when they have the show for second seating people before dinner. The main reason we take second seating is so we don't have to rush and have time for a nap or a soak in the hot tub. I wish they would just have the shows after dinner. Guess this is one of the reasons we don't go to many shows on the ships. sue |

Guess this is one of the reasons we don't go to many shows on the ships. sue Princess does several shows at 7:00PM. But rather than a peeve, this works well for us since with Personal Choice we tend to eat a 5:30 then go to the 7:00 show. This allows us to go to the 8:45 show in another venue. When the main show is later, we can only catch one or the other. -- Greg |

Although on embarkation day everyone tries to make it so and it gets backed up. On subsequent days, you realize that there are several stations (lines) and it is easy to dart in and out of the short venues. I've been on so many of them, I know exactly how to get what I want without butting in line and without waiting more than a few seconds. -- Greg |

The embarquation photo that used to be 4x6 & cost $6.96- now they make it an 8x10 & expect people to shell out $19.95. well, it *is* over three times the area ;-) -- Wilf ...and that's the reason we don't buy them any longer. I don't have enough room on the walls of my house (or enough places to have picture frames sitting) to deal with an 8x10. I can deal with 4x6 or even 5x7. I'd never buy an 8x10. Even if we looked good, which knowing how we LOVE to have our photos taken (NOT), we probably wouldn't. |

WHOA!! You're the one who is bothered by the so called noise from the slot machines...not me..nor does your annoyance bother me! I just find your annoyance at someone's good luck amusing, especially since you are not even in the casino! It sure does not make me guilty for enjoying something that seems to annoy you when you can do something to avoid it. It is an annoying noise. It's music to my ears! ;-) --Jean |

When the entertainment on a ship isn't up to expectations, those one-armed bandits can provide an abundance of fun. OTOH, I only play with monopoly money; never squander the "rent" money. g Many times I "make deposits" with absolutely no return, but the payoff is in the fun that I have. Of course, though, when there are lots of dings, that adds to the fun, since its a sign that you're getting a little of your $$ back, and once in a blue moon, a lot! :-) Ermalee |

I have never been in the casino except when I was forced by the layout to walk through it, so I did not know that was the "good luck" noise. I didn't even know that it was slot machines (which I presume that it is). And I'm NOT annoyed at someone's good luck. Although I'm sure the ships wouldn't continue to do the casino if they weren't making a profit, so I think the 'good luck' is more an illusion than reality in the long run. Of course, the most difficult to extinguish behaviors are those with intermittent reinforcement like slot machines where you only win occasionally. Not annoyed that someone wins. Just annoyed at the accompanying noise. It is an annoying noise. It's music to my ears! ;-) I don't care what you think about it - it is annoying. And I find it amusing, but sad, that you think it is 'music'. |

And I find it amusing, but sad, that you think it is 'music'. Not sad at all, if one minds his p's and q's and doesn't get carried away, betting the farm. I suppose some folks do go too far, bur when you consider it entertainment, and don't go overboard, PLUS enjoying the playing, it isn't sad. Maybe 'music' is the wrong word, because, of course, it isn't MUSIC! Just a great sound that tickles the player when he/she is winning (which does happen sometimes). I won't tell you how much $$ I have poured into those machines, and lost, because I don't have any idea. However, on one cruise I did win enough to pay for the cruise for both of us. I realize that doesn't happen often. I almost never play bingo, but I did on the last day of one of our cruises and won 2600 dollars. I just don't enjoy bingo though. Ermalee --thinks playing the slots is fun and winning is MORE fun :-) |
