Carnival Cruise Liberty in Europe
We are going to Europe on the Liberty, Carnival Cruise Lines, in July,
and are looking for info from anyone who has done this cruise. Flying into Rome and cruising from there. WE have 2 off board excursions planned and paid for...one is Rome tour and the other is Pompeii, Sorrento and Isle of Capri. What ports are safe to travel *on your own* and what ports should the planned excursions be used. I was told subway transportation in Taromina is very close to where the ship docks. Any info at all will be so helpful. Thanks |

Any info at all will be so helpful. Thanks There's no subway (metro) transport in Taromina but a railway station. Don't know where the ship docks but the city is probably in walking distance (it's a steep climbing though) or a short taxi trip. The city with the ancient theatre is well worth a visit. http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/...39/page83.html Possibly you're talking about Catania where there's actually a real but short metro. http://www.urbanrail.net/eu/cat/catania.htm That metro replaced part of the circumetnea railway which now starts from the end of the metro. The narrow gauge railway is a real gem being built over volcanic landscape downhill Etna and as the name indicating it's running around Etna. Back to Catania is by Trenitalia railway. http://www.circumetnea.it/ You are probably right Lennart, the ship is way to big for the dock in Naxos so Catania or Messina are the likely stops.-Actually now that I look in the Carnival brochure it is Messina. Naples is not so good for walking around but you have a long trip to Pompei and Sorrento and then Capri! Ship probably picks you up at Capri and it is probably a very good shore excursion. In Cannes you can take a train to Nice and on to Monaco fairly easily on your own, Livorno is a bit too far to explore Florence on your own, either go to Lucca or take the ship's tour to Florence. In Barcelona you can see every thing on your own if you are so minded, but watch out for pick pockets as they will be watching for you. Dubrovnik is small enough to do on one's own, Venice you will share with a half a million others, but the main attractions are easy enough to find. Normal pick pocket alert. -- Joseph Coulter Cruises and Vacations http://www.josephcoulter.com/ |
