Default NYC, Florida and Caribbean trip

I am planning the subject trip and would like to have some useful advice.
My present plans a
Flight from Italy to NYC and stay in Manhattan for 2 nights.
Flight from NYC area to the Miami area where i plan to stay a total of 5
night, say 3 in a nice seaside resort near Miami and 2 in Key West. Will
rent a car. Not interested in night life or that sort of things. Just nice
quiet places will be ok.
Flight to a nice Caribbean island easily reacheable from Miami for about 4/5
night and then return home to Italy.
I would appreciate general advices but more specifically about:
Which is the most convenient airline to fly from NYC area to Miami area and
back? What about rent-a-car in Miami area?
Would like to have suggestions about nice resorts in the Miami and Key West
area. Say about USD 100-150/night for a double room.
Any preferred Caribbean island and/or resort? I would rather avoid Bahamas
since I have been there before and found it too much humid and expensive.
Also what is the most convenient way to get there?.
Thanks a lot to anyone willing to answer me.

I have never been to the Carribean, but I can tell you that Grand Bahama
is a very popular destination from Miami.

As for Florida, if you want a quiet visit, just spend your time in the
Keys and skip Miami. Also note that Miami is an urban city and it is not
seaside. You are probably confusing Miami with Miami Beach. Two
different communities. If you want to stay at a seaside resort there,
consider South Beach Miami. The north area of Miami Beach is not all
that nice. There are plenty of hotels available for both areas on the
usual travel related web sites such as Expedia. Note though that
South Beach is very noisy, night club sort of area so it might not
be to your liking if you prefer a quiet area.

Hi Elio,
Where can you go to an island that isn't humid particularly in the
Caribbean? It's a small piece of land surrounded by water. I think you will
have the same problem with cost. I have been to Grand Cayman, loved it, went
broke there! lol

Too short if you want to see or do anything. If you just want to go to
Florida and the Caribbean, don't spend any time in New York, but look
for a direct flight to Miami or change planes somewhere (probably
Atlanta).

Which is the most convenient airline to fly from NYC area to Miami area and

The one that's cheapest and has the scheduled flights that fit best
into your schedule. Seriously, how else can anyone answer that
question? Check out the flights yourself on websites like expedia.com,
lowestfare.com, travelocity.com, etc.

This I couldn't tell you, as I have no experience with Caribbean
islands.

I would rather avoid Bahamas
since I have been there before and found it too much humid and expensive.

Wouldn't places further south be even more humid, if anything?

Also what is the most convenient way to get there?.

By plane, of course. Your other option is by ship, which of course
takes longer.

Thank You Michael for the information provided.
As You probably know, in Europe there are several low cost airlines which
provide very good fares and may not be found, as far as i know, with
websites like expedia or similar. I undestand that similar airlines exist

in
the States too, (thinking about jetblue and other). So i wonder if some of
them serve the route i am interested in such as NYC to Miami area or the
Caribbean.

Most cut rate airlines in the US fly domestic routes only

South West dont fly from NYC to Miami neither
do Jet Blue but they do have flights from JFK to
Fort Lauderdale (25 miles away)

If you want to travel from Italy to New York then Miami
or the Carribean then an open jaw flight entering NYC
and returning from Miami may be a better deal.

One exception is ATA but I think their caribbean routes are out of Chicago
which is out of the way for this person.

If you don't mind being on a ship with lesbian and gay families R
Family Cruises started by Rosie O'Donnell has a cruise that originates
in New York City with stops in Miami / South Beach, Key West, the
cruise ship's private island, Cozumel and Cancun. The cruise is family
oriented and open to anyone - Rosie is just mainly marketing to gay
families.

Holland America has something similar with fewer stops. It starts in
New York, then to Miami Beach, Key West, the Bahamas and one more stop
in the Caymans and then return to New York.

The benefit is you only have to pay one fee that covers your
transportation and lodging and you only have to unpack / pack once.
The downside these itineraries may not spend as many days in each
location as you'd like. I just thought I would put them out there for
consideration as an alternative option.

You could always check out the websites of individual airline
companies after checking the usual air travel websites. It couldn't
hurt, but I doubt you'll get cheaper domestic (within the U.S.)
airfares that way.
