In my experience with them (just a few trips), they use new 747s for the
transpacific segment

Recently introduced the A340 to Seattle and SFO.

On the other hand, a month later, I was stuck on an old

You should've asked for a bulkhead seat. On DC-10s, economy bulkheads
have more legroom than business class (and NW business class is quite
generous - by far the most comfortable business class I've been in).

If you fly NW PDX-NRT now, then you will get an old DC-10. If you wait till
around mid-September, then you get a brand new A330 with PTV's.

Who introduced the A340 to Seattle? Not China Airlines, unless it went
totally unnoticed to those of us that fly to and from SEA regularly.
I can't think of anyone that flies the A340 to Seattle.

Funny that China Airline's own web site doesn't even list Seattle as a
destination! Is this a seasonal flight or a code share?

A recent introduction like I said. It is a Delta codeshare but uses CI
airplanes thus:

Confusing CI with CA perhaps ??
