Default Hotels in Tegucigalpa, Honduras

I will be traveling to Tegucigalpa, Honduras next month and have
narrowed my hotels to Hotel Honduras Maya or Aparthotel Guijarros.
Since they both offer suites with a kitchen and are similarly priced I
was wondering if anyone had been to either of these places and can
offer any comments or suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Sy .

Travelling is all about choices-hopefully by the end of your trip you
will have grown up some and will have learned to make up your own
mind.

I'm not familier with the Guijarros but the Maya used to be the best
hotel in Honduras and is still one of the top five. However if you
haven't already, consider Minister Suites http://www.ministersuites.com/

Newer, same amenities and some the Maya doesn't have. At only $80/day it
is quite affordable too.

Hi Ron,

I am aware of those places but from what I can tell, Minister Suites
has no pool which for me is a must.

Was wondering what the area around the Hotel Maya is like and whether
it's close to stores etc..

Any idea?

Thanks

Having lived in Tegus for a number of years The Hotel Maya is the best, service
location is number 1, they also have a nice casino.
Enjoy

In that case, The Maya would do nicely. It is in a decent location
(although the hookers can be rather aggresive after dark) and close to
shops. But if you need anything further away, just take a cab - $5 will
get you most anyplace.

Aparthotel Guijarros and Minister Suites are in a quiet upscale
neighborhood that is not within walking distance of any shops.
Aparthotel Guijarros has a swimming pool.

The Maya, Libertador, El General and San Martin are all grouped
together. The Maya has a casino and a pool, but has become a bit
run-down in recent years. The other three hotels are nicer, in my
opinion. All are within walking distance of shops and a short cab ride
from good resturants.

The newest hotels in town are the Clarion and Intercontinental. The
Intercontinental has a pool and is attached to an American-style mall
and cinema complex complete with TGI Fridays and Tony Romas. The
Clarion is across a busy street from Wendys and Burger King. Both
feature nice accomodations, but high prices and an almost total lack
of culture.

Be advised that Tegucigalpa is not a safe city to go walking in, both
from a criminal as well as a pedestrian safety aspect.
