On Fri, 3 Dec 2004 17:14:00 -0500, in rec.travel.europe, "Richard"

arranged some electrons, so they looked like this :

... She shouldn't have had to learn a lesson. It's quite possible that

some

... genuinely friendly and understanding people who aren't in any sort
of

rush

... will one day visit Paris and wander into her restaurant, needing

help. If

... she learned her "lesson" they'll be out of luck.

The ugly americans taught her that lesson. Their problem if they can't

read a map, or are

too self-centred to think about other people's feelings.

(If her map was "inadequate", *they* should go and buy a better one - she

is paid to serve

coffee, not to give directions to stupid tourists).

... Had someone stepped in (I'm not trying to implicity blame Mxsmanic,
I
... understand the situation happened quickly) to intervene but prefixed

the

... directions with a quick lecture aimed at the Americans' lack of

courtesy,

... then the waitress wouldn't have burst into tears and would have been

ready

... to help the next tourists.

And the nice, helpful person would be bad-mouthed for the next thousand

years as an

"arrogant French" for daring to lecture them. Not good enough for me,

thank you.

Well, I hope when you are in a country where you do not speak the
language
fluently, you get some parasite, that causes you to go to a hospital with
no
French Speakers and the person in the waiting room ignores you because
you
are ugly. And the Ugly American was called that because he was ugly, not
discourteous as you seem to be.

It's nice to see someone who remembers 50s literature. Very non PC since
he was only ugly because he was old. The local asians thought that
looking old was ugly.
