Govt to rethink Singapore Airlines decision

The Federal Government says it will reconsider a decision not to grant
Singapore Airlines access to the Sydney-Los Angeles route after it has
examined the effects on Australian carriers.

Federal Transport Minister John Anderson has held talks with
Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Dr Tony Tan to discuss access
arrangements for the trans-Pacific route.

Mr Anderson says he has told Dr Tan the Government is not in a position
to allow Singapore Airlines to fly the route, but will make further
inquiries over coming weeks.

Qantas and United Airlines are the only two airlines currently offering
direct flights on the route.

They intend to keep it that way as well. Qantas lacks the competitve
spirit, just like Air NZ.
I've got no time for either of them. Prefer SIA or Cathay.
