Why hotels turn off air conditioning at night?
Please confirm: hotels turn off air conditioning after 2AM and turn back on
by 6AM. Why? I have traveled in Hong Kong and Shenzhen and Vancouver and Seattle for the pass few years. I have stayed in mostly 4 and 5 star hotels. I noticed hotels turn off air conditioning around 2AM and turn the air back on around 6AM. That means even when the air conditioner is turned on and blowing, but its not cooled. This is quite annoying and woke me up every night. Anything I can do about it? |

Probably because the air temp inside has reached equilibrium with outside temp. |

They don't turn it off, certainly not at the Mandarin, the Excelsior, either of the InterContinentals, the Conrad, or any of the many hotels I've stayed at, including cheaper ones like the Newton and the Park. What you're probably experiencing is a power-down as the outside temperature cools, making the a/c unnecessary. Then in the morning, as the sun warms the hotel, it powers up again. You could reset the thermostat below the night-time minimum temperature to keep it on all night. Another option is to turn it off at night and rely on the corridor a/c to keep cool, especially outside high summer. Cheers, George W. Russell Bangalore |

Why hotels turn off air conditioning at night?
No, it certainly is NOT. I verified that the temperature was much more
warmer and humid in that particularly days when the air conditioning was turn off, in those hours. The air was blowing, but the air blown is not cooled. "grusl" wrote in message oups.com... ajgy wrote: Please confirm: hotels turn off air conditioning after 2AM and turn back on by 6AM. Why? Russell Bangalore I'm not sure about AC, but at a Holiday Inn Express in St. Paul, MN (Which I stay at frequently), they *do* turn off the heat from spring to fall. It's on a central steam system in a Railroad museum. Living in Texas, I'm used to sleeping in a very warm room. I freeze my butt off when I'm there. |

I checked into a Best Western last month in Dallas, TX. When I got to my room, the AC didn't work. I walked to the front desk and informed them. The Desk clerk apologized and flipped on a circuit breaker in a cabinet next to the desk. After that, it worked fine. (Best Western, Dallas Love Field) |

Why hotels turn off air conditioning at night?
For example, I was staying in Shenzhen Wuzhou Guesthouse. That is a true 5
star international hotel. They turn off ALL the air conditioning power very night. Beacuse I stayed there in serveral different rooms, and my group also told me they have same experiences. In Hong Kong, last week our group stayed at the Kimberly Hotel and Marco Polo Gateway Hotels. Same AC power was turned off after 2am.
