Trip Cancellation Insurance

I am shopping for trip cancellation insurance just now. I am thinking
of just insuring myself for the cost of the land tour, and not the
airfare, since if the airline somehow defaulted they would have to
reimburse you, and if I had to cancel the trip the airline would allow
me credit toward another flight in the future (less a penalty, of
course). Does this sound reasonable?

Impeccable logic. Airlines that go bankrupt always re-imburse their
affected passengers.

Thanks a lot. The airline in question is American, and I have not heard
that they are in any jeopardy. A response to the actual question would
be appreciated.

You might rethink for a different reason. coverage for not making the
trip because the plane was delayed, rerouted. OR if you just missed the
pane due to an accident not even involving you but snarling you in
traffic. By insuring the flight you can protect against trip
interuptions like these. If you don't your coverage won't be as global
as you might wish.
