Default Bank cards in the USA

I just returned frio las vegas and while in one of the Casinos I tried
to use My BMO bank card to withdraw money from my checking account .
The machine led me through all the steps and then rejected the
transaction . I thought if the card had PLus, Cirrus Or interact on it
it could be used at any type of machine with these symbols . The
machine directed me to the Casino Cage . They said unless the card had
my name on it I could not get cash .Any reason for this. I had a
credit card I used but what is the sense of having the bank card if I
cannot use it for money in my account

You have a bank card not in your name?

A lot of people do. I have a friend who doesnt pay taxes for
political reasons, he uses a card with his wifes name on it. His name
is nowhere on the account.

May the IRS catch up with the bum! I guess he's not rich enough
to be a friend of Dubya and have tax laws written for him.

Actualy, he does quite well......funny thing is, he has over 75,000 in
the bank whose sole purpose is to pay off the irs if and hwen they
find him......it isnt that he doesnt want to pay taxes, just doesnt
want to pay for this war....

he donates heavily to the local schools, agencies, etc.......

But if he tries to use that ATM card to get cash from a counter, he
won't be able to because that would not be his bank card.

OK let me rephrase. OP has a bankcard with no name on it?

yeah, but who needs to get cash from a counter(besides to OP)? Its
been used to check into hotels, pick up tix at will call, etc, all
things it shouldnt be allowed for.....

but thats a different story all together.....

A business can refuse a credit card if you can't produce ID to prove
you're the owner.

And if it's a company card, a casino might be wary of letting you
withdrawal company funds for casino gambling.

BMO does not issue bank cards with names on them. I have a BMO and
Scotia card, there is just numbers, no name. At USPS, they were
shocked to see banks would issue cards that did not have names on
them, or any fancy MasterCard or Visa logo either.

I've personally never tried to use my BMO or Scotia card in the US, I
have a US checking account to avoid any problems with Canadian banks,
high fees, currency exchange, etc. Not to mention I have credit cards
too (although I'm not in the habit of using them like a debit card,
since our system is a little different, here a credit card is really a
credit card, not a debit card linked to an existing bank account).

For the record, TD and Royal bank issue cards with the customer's
name... Scotia, BMO, CIBC, PC Banking do not issue cards with any
names on them at all. (Speaking from experience handling all sorts of
transactions where I used to work, I've seen them all...)

This is hardly what the OP was complaining about... He's complaining
he banks with a company that issues a bank card by serial number on
the spot, as in, I can walk into my bank, tell them it's lost, and get
a new one which will be my new permanent bank card. And since this
practice does not exist in the US, and cards have names on them, the
teller in Las Vegas refused to acknowledge his Canadian card.

Can't say why the bank machine rejected it, I'm sure some of my
customers had used their Canadian cards in the US, but I think most
travel with traveller's checks. I just wire my money to a Canadian
based US dollar account online, that takes one day, then I can write
myself a check off that account. Either that, or it goes on Visa and
the payment gets made by phone from my Cdn account. (I guess what I'm
saying, is if you travel often, have a system to get your money out...
I only run into trouble when I leave North America, since not everyone
is as welcome to Visa as in Canada/USA).
