Woman dies from fall on cruise ship in Gulf

48-year-old woman died from a fall on a cruise ship operated by
Carnival
Corp., the company said.

[snipped]

The fall didn't kill her,
' Twas the impact with the deck that did 'er in.

Your absolutely correct. As W.C. Fields once said, while falling off of
a
1900 foot cliff..."It's not the first 1899 feet that will kill you my
dear..it's the last foot that will do you in".

BTW..it is the booze that puts a person into the frame of mind to even
think
about suicide.

JP

Nah, it is the sober crazy mind that creates the thought of suicide.

But it can be drunken mind that has its defenses down to the point
where the act can actually happen.

True, the drunkeness will enhance the crazy mind.

I was on the ship --- she jumped. While I didn't see it, I did talk to
people afterwards that did. There were plenty of witnesses. She was on
the 10th deck and was having an argument with someone (I presume to be
her husband). Of course when a loud argument breaks out, people look.
This was a very popular place on the boat, other then a private
balcony, the only public place right on the stern overlooking the
ocean.

As for backtracking, yes, the ship did go into a circle, the crew not
immediately knowing she missed going into the water. I was standing in
line in the store when the ship leaned hard. My wife was in the casino
and a woman there fell over due to the ships turn. This was about 3:20
pm.

There were many rumors as to the reason - announced divorce, gambling
debt, etc - who knows what the truth is.

The only way a person can fall off of a cruise ship deck is if they are
close to 7' tall. I am 6'2", and the only way for me to "fall" off a cruise
ship deck is for me to climb over the rail to "fall." One certainly has to
climb over the rail to "fall" off, there is no leaning over the rail to fall
off the boat. Perhaps a 7' tall person could lean over the rail,
pontentially falling over the rail of a typical cruise ship. Noway a
person of average height could "fall" over the rail of a cruise ship.

It seems the really sick *******s are the ones that come out and make
remarks about someone whose life was so distressing to them they took their
own life. There is something seriously wrong with anyone that contemplates
suicide, but they are not wackos, fruitcakes or any of the other terrible
things you think are funny to say about them. I'm lucky, I have never had
anyone in my family do this. Hopefully you will be that lucky but if someone
you know or love kills themselves, think of how you would feel if complete
strangers publicly called them these names. Grow up.

Thank you Jim. Every time I read one of the posts in that vein, I was
tempted to respond, but figured it was a waste of time. You said it much
better than I could have anyway. I too have never had anyone close to me
take their own life, and I can't imagine how devastating it must be.

Let me clarify my posting. People, who commit suicide are not "fruitcakes".
I did not mean for that term to apply to anyone, who took their own life. I
meant for the term "fruitcakes" to apply to people, who took their own lives
and make a spectacle of the act...I.E. Jump off of a cruise ship....jump
from a tall building onto the street below etc etc. They are "fruitcakes" in
that they want to make the public observe their horrendous act. They should
do it in private at home and not create a public spectacle.

You are digging yourself a deeper hole. If someone is so distraught that
they take their own life, you think they really care what you think or if
killing themselves might offend you? Not only are you showing yourself to be
an insensitive ass, but also a stupid one! How old are you anyway, 10?

Jim,
You and I do not always agree but this time you are right on target.. When I
read some of the callous posts, it is very sad that people are so
insensitive and make jest about someone taking their life.. Years ago, I was
on duty as a nurse for 18 months in a psychiatric hospital. People just do
not realize how fragile the human mind is...A person has to be desperately
unhappy and have lost all hope to take their life..Can you imagine the
torment that they are going through? At the time that they go through with
the act, they see no other way out of the situation that they are in. I have
seen patients who were so unhappy that they pretended to live in another
world, pretended to be someone else, because they could not face the torment
of their real world, imagined or real. This woman, rumor has it, was seen
arguing with someone, possibly her husband..Who knows what her life really
was all about...The news is filled with all sorts of painful things
happening to people all around us that are inflicted by people that we never
would have thought would do such dreadful things. Whatever was going on in
hers made her think that she could not endure another minute of it. It is
very sad.
True, there are isolated cases when someone is so intoxicated that they do
foolish things, never realizing what the consequences will be...often it is
someone who is young and thinks, like all of us foolishly did when we are
young, that we will live forever.
Thanks for posting as you did.

No moron, I'm 62 not 10 and I really don't care one way or another if
someone wants to end their life. that is their business and none of mine. I
just think it should be done in private and the public should not be forced
to watch someone get spattered on the street or on the deck of a ship. It
has the potential to ruin your whole day. If someone wants to take a bottle
of pills or blow their brains out, do it at home; not where I have to see
the blood and gore. Am I insensitive? No. I just don't stick my nose in
other other people's affairs. What they do is no concern of mine as long as
it does not affect me directly.

It is not insensitive to be unconcerned about other peoples problems. I have
my own problems to deal with and I don't need to be burdened with problems
that are not my own. NOW..if someone has a problem, I'm more than happy to
do anything I can to help them, if they ask me for help. I don't need the
trama of watching blood be hosed off of the deck of a ship, when the person
could have gone to their room and put a bag over their head. If they wanted
help, I'm sure they would have asked for it. Now, in case you are wondering,
I believe that a person has a right to end their life, whenever they choose
and for any reason. I believe in the oregon suicide law and hope all other
49 states will adopt it someday. A little white pill prescribed by a doctor
would be a lot better than a 1 1/2 gainer from the top of a cruise ship.
