Default Where to find historical weather averages?

I have always found it hard to find historical weather on the web. Most
sites are geared to forecasting. What I'm looking for is average highs,
average lows, and precipitation for different locations.

An example of what I'd like is on the right side of this page:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g...Vacations.html

But it only covers 6 months. I want 12.

Then I go to another city and this chart does not appear:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g4...na-Hotels.html

What is really needed is a site when you enter a town or zip code and such
a chart is displayed. And even better if there was a way to compare a bunch
of cities.

Weather Underground allows you to enter variable dates in their history
page:

http://www.wunderground.com/history/

You'll need to enter your destination and view a date, then click on
the custom tab to get your choice of date range. A bit of
experimentation seems to indicate that the limit is one year.

Look for the climatology databases, like: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/

If I put in any date in the past I can then click the Monthly tab. On it I
can get the average max and the average min for that specific month. But
that is not what I want.

Since starting this thread I have learned that what I am looking for is
called "climate normals." Searching on that finds what I am looking for in
many places. But all are different. The NWS has issued normals for
1971-2000 and more recently 1981-2010. If I only found two different sets
of numbers I could understand that some were the old and some were the new.
But all are different!

Now if I could find the matching normals from Wunderground...

The problem with the NOAA is they distribute the normals as a database. I
did this time find a retrieval tool. But it is not very friendly. It
rejects a Portsmouth zip code. If I look for all the state Portsmouth isn't
a choice. Nor is the Pease airport listed. Using longitude and latitude I
find that Greenland is the closest.

What it wants to do is to e-mail me a data dump.

I give up try to find this easily at the NOAA.

Greenland,NH is just below Portsmouth. unless you zoom into each city, "the
next town over" is as good as it gets.

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/view/prodsBy...odtype=climate
Lots of info in report.... scroll all the way down - cities listed
