Are all cruises non-smoking?
Am I right in assuming all cruises are totally non-smoking these days?
In personal cabins? Are there pub-type smoking areas on deck? Surreyman |

Am I right in assuming all cruises are totally non-smoking these days? No. They usually have smoking-rooms available, where you can sit down and smoke a cigarette or cigar. In personal cabins? Rather not, due to safety-reasons (fire). Are there pub-type smoking areas on deck? Yes. Regards, Frank |

I'm not sure, I don't look at it very often. My wife is utterly anti-cruise so it's my vicarious way of travelling the high seas. I suspect cruising solo isn't much fun. Surreyman I was unfortunate enough to be on a Nile Cruise with a German passenger complement, plus me, two Brits and two Russians. The only non-smoking area appeared to be the dining room, everywhere else had an ashtray on every table. I suspect you would find similar arrangements on many of the European river cruise boats catering to German passengers. Which cruise lines have smoking rooms available? When I went on a mediterranean cruise with MSC last year they did have rooms where you could sit down and smoke and have a drink or play some cards. Somewhere near the Casino-part. They did have seperate doors and air conditioning, so the smoke wouldn't disturb other passengers. It was not allowed to smoke in the cabins, though. I can't remember if you could smoke on deck (I don't smoke myself, but I remember that smoking-room). Regards, Frank |

In Germany they start to ban smoking in public areas, though it's not in every part of Germany so far. I would expect that most river-cruises in Germany should be smoke-free now. Egypt is another cup of tea, there's not much of a non-smoker-lobby in North Africa or the Middle East. Regards, Frank |
