Default Connections to VCE (Venice airport)?

Seems to me I read somewhere, possibly on the railroad list, that there
was to be a rail connection to VCE (Venice Marco Polo Airport). Does
anybody know if this ever happened? The airport website says nothing
about it, although I notice the website is dated 2001. The web site for
the Holiday Inn in Quarto d'Altino states the hotel is 10 minutes by
train from the airport, but I can find no rail connection listed on
trenitalia.com.
Furthermore, the Holiday Inn sites mention a subway in Quarto d'Altino.
Does a subway really exist??

There is no direct connection. You would have to take a bus or boat to
Venezia Santa Lucia station which is the main train station in Venice.
