I bet Oceania isn't happy that a pic of one of their ships is being
used with the article!

Warren

I noticed that too. Oh well. Just wish people would remember to wash
their hands and not touch the food on the buffet with their hands. That's
what the tongs are for.

In over 30 cruises, I've never had a bout with the Noro Virus. I don't
think any of my 'smart' cruise friends have either. Amateurs drive me
crazy. ;-)

JR

I've been on 42 cruises, and you're right as far as I'm concerned. But I
do take precautions. My friend, Jean, taught me to wipe down almost
everything in my cabin before unpacking.

Ermalee

All you need is a zip top baggie with some Lysol Sanitary Wipes! I always
bring along some extra ones for Ermalee and I have to hurry out of her cabin
or else she puts me to work wiping down things! ;-)

Good tip, Jean & Ermalee! I am crazy, I never thought of that. However, I do
wipe down "my area" on an airplane.

Diana

Diana,
The cabin is clean but the phone, light switches, door handles, locks and
drawer pulls or tops are probably never cleaned but used by many passengers
before you...who knows if a previous passenger had not been ill or used poor
hygiene? Also all the things handled in the bathroom...The cabin steward
probably does not wipe off the flushing button. I always carry my little
Purell bottle with me when there is no sanitizing station nearby the food
service areas and the casino! It may be tough on the hands but better that
then becoming ill...Besides the hand lotion that the cruise line provides
comes in good use!

You're right about the plane too, Diana...I never use a blanket that has not
been wrapped in plastic. There was an article that
I read sometime ago that told of an inspection on planes that revealed that
the trays and blankets had anything from food to fecal matter on them...I
try to remember to bring a small fleece throw that I can fold into my bag
that I use.

If everyone washed their hands frequently and kept them away from their
face, it would probably solve the problem unless they came onboard already
ill and carrying the virus or bacteria.

That's the secret. Wash your hands and try to keep them away from your
mouth, eyes and nose.

I wanted to smack a lady I saw pick up a roll, with her hands, sniff it
and put it back. I made the guy behind the counter remove the tray and
replace it with fresh bread.

Keep sailing healthy all.

. . . but then we touch the tongs. grin FWIW, when I get food at the
buffet, I use Purell when I return to the table, before touching
anything. It's just cheap insurance.

Excellent idea, Nonny. I carry it in my purse. Use it on airplanes all
the time.

I do too, Joyce. It's a lot cheaper than the little bottles of
gin they sell on the planes for $4.

Luxury cars now offer a Republican seating option. These are
seats which blow heated air onto your backside in the winter
and cooled air in the summer. If they were democrat car seats,
they would just blow smoke up your rump year-round.

Not a problem for me. They keep upgrading me. Must have something to do
with 100,000+ miles per year I fly. They give you those little bottles
for free, up front. ;-)

Then I must be a dumb cruise friend.

In nearly 50 cruises the one and only time I caught norovirus was last
year... on Holland America Line.

Huge outbreak on Maasdam last January.

Not your fault. Somebody brought it on board and caught you unawares.
