Costa Rica
We visited Costa Rica in January, 2003, and had a great time, so we are
returning during Christmas of this year. Before, we visited Alajula(Doka Coffee Estate, Poas Volcano, the Waterfall Garden) Jaco Beach(Manuel Antonio National Park, rode 4-wheelers, and a Canopy tour), and Monteverde(Sky Walk and Sky Trek). This time we want to spend a couple of days in Monteverde, and see our friends in Jaco Beach for a couple of days. Has anyone been some place on the Caribbean coast that you would recommend? Cruisers have suggested that Limon might not be the place to go. We enjoy a beautiful beach that we can snorkel from. Also, places to stay on the Caribbean coast? Thanks. Sandi |

If you want a snorkeling beaches, I'd suggest Drakes Bay http://www12.virtualtourist.com/m/4a9c6/22aadb/ but that's not a Caribbean beach. The southern Caribbean coast (where I've never) been is the place for snorkeling. We took trips from there to Isla Canos and Corcovado National Park. We went to Parissima in the Tortugero area (northern Caribbean coast), and visited the park by boat (it's canals mostly) http://www12.virtualtourist.com/m/4a9c6/192755/. This is the place for seeing rain forest animals of the eastern side of Costa Rica and nesting sea turtles in season, but the beaches are black sand and are not suitable for swimming let alone snorkeling. We had an awesome night tour by boat when the guide turned off all the lights and then had us listen. We saw a toucan and poison arrow frogs and all kinds of neat stuff. We stayed at a Parissima camp which was originally a fishing camp. http://www12.virtualtourist.com/m/4a9c6/192acd/ This is VERY basic with no AC or even much electricity or hot water. All meals are family style and are included in the price. If you are going back to Monteverde, I certainly would NOT miss Arenal. http://www12.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/2c0d8/#TL grandma Rosalie |
