whitewater rafting in australia(east coast)
Hi !
I'm planning to make a trip at the east coast of australia from cairns to sidney in august. Can sombody recommend me whitewater rafting areas and companies which organize rafting tours ? Best regards Marc Schoechlin -- I prefer non-proprietary document-exchange. http://sector7g.wurzel6.de/pdfcreator/ http://www.prooo-box.org/ |

Best regards Marc Schoechlin Around Coffs Harbour there are a few companies that do rafting on the Nymboida River, there is also a white water centre near Grafton in NSW which uses warm water from a hydro power station. The Olympic Games site at Penrith (Sydney) also has rafting using the kayak course - which is good with multiple passes down the same course and a conveyor belt to take you back to the top. August is mid winter and (by my standards) will be cold so you'll need someone who rents wetsuits, etc. In Queensland there are plenty of rafting sites but I'm not sure about August as its generally dry at that time of year. Cairns area will have a few companies, do a weblookup on "rafting cairns". Have a great trip. |

Same place. The hydro station upstream from Grafton is on the Nymboida River. http://clarencecoast.info/article/ccCANOE Another popular spot, further south, is Barrington Tops. http://www.boac.com.au/ However, with the drought at the moment, it is wise to directly contact any white water locality's tourist centre. If they are relying on a stream downstream from a dam there may be limited water release and insufficient for the white water experience. The last big drought put a couple of operators out of business. Cheers, Alan (old boy, Grafton High:-) |

Has a downriver whitewater course plus a slalom course. The Nymboida River is all natural and well worth the visit. With all the rain chucking down along the East Coast it would be nice down there in a few days. |

This is a 'little bit' south of Sydney. I don't think they intend to visit the Apple Isle. |

Can sombody recommend me whitewater rafting areas and companies which organize rafting tours ? Australia is a continent of little relief and little water. Major rivers have a flow (vol/sec) that would go unremarked anywhere else and are flat and slow (m/sec). Rivers coming out of moutains have little flow (vol/sec). You may find rafting in Australia, but it's like skiing in Hawaii. You would be better rewarded doing something that better fits Australia and save your white water rafting for countries that have mountains and melting snow.
