Try Reggie at regtour.com used him in February and had a great time. Check
the cruisecritic Belize board for lots of reviews. If you have any specific
questions, I'd be glad to help.....Barb

I want to do the cave tubing in March when we go however I'm worried it's
going to be too intense for our 10 yr old daughter. Was it really strenuous
and was the water really deep? She can swim but I'm not sure if it's a good
tour for her.

Thanks!

Barb, how deep is the river that is used for cave tubing? Does one have to
be able to swim to participate?

I have gone cave tubing with Reggie on a private tour. The cruiseline limit
the age to 12 I believe and I think 10 is too young, UNLESS the child is
completely independent and can swim and paddle on their own.

I think 10 is too young, UNLESS the child is completely independent and can
paddle and go on their own. There is about a mile hike- easy, but in the
river, the bottom is stones with some swift moving current. The cruiselines
limit the age to 12 I believe and with good reason. The water levels can vary
vastly however- so if you are still intent on going, I would book a week before
and be sure the levels are low. We had ideal mid levels, but still unsuitable
for anything but a completely independent child on portions of the trip.

I went cave tubing in Belize - And I would think that 10 is too young. Some
places in the River are over your head deep. I got off my tube while getting
near the end of the caves, cause everyone around me was walking through the
river, and I was on top of some trench, and fell all the way in, under the
water. And I thought I would get away with cave tubing with an ear infection!!
Did everything possible not get water in ear, until this incident.
BUT NO REGRETS

I have done the cave tubing through the ships tour and we enjoyed it very
much. I have also seen reports from those that have used Reggie and they
also seems well pleased. There is a great deal of discussion on this tour in
a number of message boards at www.cruisemates.com namely the Carnival, RCI,
excursions, destinations, and ask the staff boards and even the chit chat
board has posts concerning this tour. The water ranges in depth from less
than a foot to about 15 feet but mostly it is waist or chest deep. They do
provide life jackets and it is recommended for those that cannot swim.
Understand you will be in a large truck tire inner tube which in itself is a
form of life preserver. The minimum age is 8 yrs old due to insurance
restrictions but with an independent I don't believe there is any insurance
so.... You mostly have a very nice leisurely float through the caves and
down the river while sitting in your tube. You also have a miners lantern on
your head for illumination.

No, Carnival age limit is 12, see their port description below.

You will depart the tender dock by bus and head up the western highway for
approximately 1½ hours, the last 6 miles being over an uneven and bumpy jungle
road. Following a short orientation with local guides you will be equipped with
your floatation tube, a caving headlamp and life vest if required. Now your
exploration will commence in earnest, carrying your equipment and walking for
approximately 45 minutes on a rain forest path, you will reach the river
entrance site for your tubing adventure. Splash into the cool waters of the
Sibun River aboard your flotation tube as you float lazily downstream observing
the cave formations of the limestone cavern that was formed before the dawn of
mankind. Lunch will be served at the Cheers restaurant following your cave
tubing adventure.

Note: It is recommended that you bring a change of clothing as you may spend up
to 1½-hours on the river. Waterproof cameras and sturdy closed-toed footwear
are a definite necessity as well as sunscreen, insect repellant and a hat.
Minimum age for participation is 12 years.

Approximately 6 ½ hours
