Cruise Pricing
Browsing through my email this morning, I received the latest "Pack and
Go" promotion from Carnival. This promo highlights some of their last minute specials and is good for people who can travel with just a few weeks notice. I was struck by the fact that the "best" deal this week on a 7 night cruise is the Carnival Valor sailing on July 4... for $589 pp + tax... inside cabin. One of the cruises on this list is the Conquest sailing out of Galveston..... $899 pp + tax for an inside cabin. INSIDE cabin... $899!!!!!????? These fares are a long way from the $299 pp specials we were seeing last year. There are still some good deals out there... especially last minute Alaska (inside cabins) on some lines... but the last minute nature of some of these deals means airfare can be hard to find... or prohibitively expensive. The least expensive fares these days seem to be on Costa... a line that is just not building a big following with American consumers. -- George Leppla Countryside Travel http://www.CruiseMaster.com Blog http://cruisemaster.typepad.com/my_weblog/ Facebook http://www.facebook.com/CruiseMaster |

First, you're a liar, you haven't read 1,000 posts since I haven't made 1,000 posts on RTC. Second, since when did you think I was here for *your* entertainment? I was on the Costa Fortuna in September and I don't recall too much smoking, just about the same as any other cruise ship. What I did like about the casino on that ship is that all the table games were non-smoking in a separate part of the casino. Smoking is pretty much relegated to the slot are of the casino and the bars, just like other ships. If I can get another $299 pp inside that actually has two portholes I will take it in a heartbeat. There were other issues with the ship but I really don't think smoking is one of them and I am one of the "assholes" who used to smoke but don't now (for last 17 years.) |

I had one cruise on Costa, the ship originated (or was it repoed to) from Italy and it was full of smokers. On the decks, casino, balconies. Not for me. You have the same areas of smokers on just about any ship, whether it leaves from US or other international ports. Yes, I have heard that Europeans do like their cigarettes but there was a great international guest list on my cruise with them and I just didn't see that much more on the Costa ship than on any other. Just like street smokers, when I was in Europe last I didn't see any more of it in France and Italy than I did on main street USA. When I saw a young person two days ago walk into our local convenience store in my home town and order a pack of cigarettes for $7.00, was I ever happy that I stopped. |
