What should we take to help schools in Gambia
We are going to Gambia (Kotu) on 16th Feb 2006. We plan to visit local
schools with our children. Can anyone suggest what sorts of things we should take to give to the schools and how we find and get to the most needy schools. Thanks, Tracey and Jon UK, |

Thanks, Tracey and Jon UK, If you don't have connections with e.g. a church group, you could try contacting a development agency e.g. Comic Relief, who are working in Ghana, particularly on Fair Trade cocoa co-operatives (Kuapa Kokoo) which also involves educational work. I suggest soccer balls, ballpoint pens and pads,
cheap handheld computers, crayons. If you take pencils, also take plastic pencil sharpeners. |

Ballpoint pens are always very welcomed. Depending on your budget,
cheap pocket calculators are a good idea. Just remember though, that you might get some hassle at customs when you enter the Gambia. You can try SOS Children's Villages for information on their needs, or UNICEF. Marc On 30 Jan 2006 14:42:36 -0800, "JonandTrace" wrote: We are going to Gambia (Kotu) on 16th Feb 2006. One thing that keeps a lot of those 3rd World country kids in school is the social aspect. --riverman |
