Default Abydos travel from Luxor

Hi All,

What is the best way to go Abydos and Dendra from Luxor. Do one has to
go in a convoy waking up at 4am or the roads are open for taxis.

Thanks

Hello.

As far as I know, taxis are not allowed to take passengers (tourists that
is) to Abydos or Dendera without joining the convoy. The convoy as such
doesn't mean a thing, the whole exercise is just a big pain in the *, but
the taxidriver has to stick to it nevertheless, otherwise he will be in big
trouble with the police / army. And in Egypt, you don't want that.

Regards, John.

Hello.

First of all, it's not so much that taxis are not allowed, but if you decide
to do the trip by taxi, it has to join the convoy.
About booking the trip as such; just ask the local touroperators (and take a
known "name") what they have to offer, for example a bustour joining other
tourists, or a minibus just for you. The nasty thing is ( or, can be) that
the convoyleaders decide how long you can stay at a site, and when to move
on to the next, or return home again. On the other hand, that's the way it
is, so I'm afraid this is the only way to see Dendera and Abydos nowadays.

Regards, John.
