Especially since Bush visited Schroeder near the US military base as
well as visiting the military base. It would have been the logical thing
to do.

Perhaps protocol would prevent Schroeder from rolling out a red carpet
and greeting him inside a US airbase.

But to me, it still seems like SChroeder didn't try to minimize the
inconveniences Bush's visit would cause. It wasn't only Frankfurt
Airport that was frozen, it was also main autobahns between Frankfurt
and the small town where they met which were close on both the inbound
and outbound commutes. The pretty well made sure that while all
courtesies were being extended to Bush, Schroeder knew that the
inconveniences to the public would ensure the public remains very much
against the war criminal and the media might focus more on the
inconveniences than on the obligatory handshake with the war criminal
and fake smiles.
