Default Playa del Carmen "sea lice?"

Hello:
Have never posted here before, so please forgive if this is redundant. Have
heard about the larva of thimble jellyfish causing "sunbathers eruption."
Have done some reading and know that, unfortunately, when I go next week,
it's peak time. Has anyone been to the Playa del Carmen area recently and
if so, had any problems with them? On advice from a recent cruise traveler
have bought the Sea Safe (or Safe Sea?) sunscreen that protects from the
bites, just wondering what to expect. Thanks for any help.

Swim naked. Seems a swimsuit holds the "lice" to your body and that's why
they sting.

My wife has problems with jelly fish so she bought a very thin, nylon,
full body suit. It weighs almost nothing and provides her with
protection against the sun and the jellys. She had several severe
eruptions before going to the suit; none since. We snorkeled at Akumal
(a little south of Playa del Carman) and had no problems, but that was a
different time of the year. I've never used the SeaSafe, but I've heard
good things about it.

You probably got stung by Hydroids. Pretty little things that love to grow
on lines in the water. Looks like plants, but are more like jellyfish. I
learned the hard way about those. Another reason not to touch stuff
underwater if you don't know what it is, even pretty things!

I got attacked in Jamaica by sea lice while clinging to a rope
that was attached to a float in the water. I got a bad rash
on the inside of my legs since they were next to or in contact with
the rope which had been in the water for some time...something to avoid.

Exactly. And if you get stung by jellyfish, or hydroids, do NOT wash
them off with fresh water. The water will rupture their cells by
osmostic pressure and release whatever poison isn't out yet. You're
better washing with with alcohol, or vinegar, or even [skeptical as
I was of the locals' emergency solution off Mombasa] gasoline.
