We are driving from Orlando to Oxford AL, Huntsville AL, Corinth MS,

Cassy, before we can offer you good advice, we'll need to know how much
time you'll have in each area. For example, if you're spending one day
in Anaheim, then Disneylan will be about it. But if you'll be there for
several days, then there are many other things you could explore in
Southern California. Same with the other areas. So let us know more
about your plans, and we'll chime in with more suggestions. (Oh, you
might let us know the time of year, too; that could affect how busy
the tourist areas are and therefore how much you can accomplish in a
given period of time.)

Nothing at all. Best to spend all your time at amusement parks and
bogus tourist attractions, since the US as a whole is totally
artificial and has no sites of actual historic interest or scenic
beauty. :-)

Knoxville and Pigeon Forge, TN for Dollywood and
numerous floor shows.

Cherokee, NC has lots of neat stuff to see.

Stone Mountain near Atlanta, GA is pretty cool.

You could visit the Columbia, SC statehouse and
see where the yankees cannonballs hit the building
when they invaded us during the War of Northern
Aggression. The spots are marked with large stars.

Charleston, SC is always a nice tour.

You may as well come to Myrtle Beach, SC and see
the first Hard Rock Theme Park scheduled to open
in 2008. (You didn't provide any dates...)

Best of luck to you.

Cassy, a few questions....

* Why did you want to visit BOTH Disneyland and DisneyWorld? I know
there are some differences between them, but they are a HUGE distance
apart.

* You mentioned why Orlando, Memphis, and Anaheim interest you, but
would you tell us why you're going to the other cities? Some of them
are not common tourist destinations.

* How much total time do you have for your trip?

We are driving from Orlando to Oxford AL...

You didn't mention California in that list. Did you just leave it out
by accident, or will that be a side trip by airplane?

There's no reason to go to both Disneyland and Disneyworld. They are
almost exactly the same, except that Disneyworld also has EPCOT
Center, which has exhibits on technology and exhibits from different
countries with souvenirs, restaurants, and sometimes a small ride or
film with scenes from that country.

Do you have a specific reason to go to the places on that list (other
than Memphis or Orlando)? Why not Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA,
Birmingham, AL, Miami, FL, or the Mississippi Delta?

My son spent a year in Nashville going to school. It is a great city. Even
if you are not a fan of country music (I'm not), be sure to get tickets to
the Grand old Opry. It is a magnificent show. Take time to walk through
the Opryland Hotel. It is gorgeous. There is a river inside the hotel that
has water collected from many of the rivers of the world. There is even a
little boat ride inside the hotel.
Take a ride on the General Jackson paddle wheel boat.
Walk through the city and visit the Hard Rock Cafe and browse all of the
shops.
The Mammoth Caves of Kentucky are not very far away. We went there as a day
trip from Nashville. A tour of the caves is unforgettable. On the way
between Nashville and the caves you will pass the Corvette Museum, which is
a must for any car lovers in your family.

If you are visiting Disneyland, you won't need to see the Magic Kingdom at
Walt Disney World, but you may want to visit the other Disney parks there,
MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, and EPCOT. Or, if you have lovers of aquatic
life, go to Sea World. If you love the movies, go to Universal Studios,
which houses 2 distinctly different theme parks; Islands of Adventure,
which has lots of thrill rides, and Universal Theme Park which has movie
based theme rides and wonderful shows. Each of these parks (MGM, AK, EPCOT,
SW and the 2 Universal) requires a full day to explore fully. September is
a wonderful time to go because all of the American kids will have just gone
back to school, so wait times in lines should be very short (in contrast, we
were in Orlando over Christmas and 2 hour wait lines were the norm)

Enjoy your trip to our country!
Momma

There are *four* theme parks at Walt Disney World, plus two water
parks, plus the Pleasure Island entertainment district, plus the
rest of Downtown Disney (Cirque du Soleil, House of Blues, lots
of stores). So in no way are DL and WDW "almost exactly the same."
Cassy and her family may well wish to visit both places.

Hi James,

sorry I was half asleep when I put this thread up.

*We are flying from LA to Orlando.

* 26 nights - 5 nights Anaheim, 1 Orlando, 1 night Oxford, 1 night
Huntsville, 1 night Corinth, 2 nights Memphis, 2 nights Nashville, 2
nights Atlanta, 10 nights Disneyworld.

*Oxford AL - Talladega Speedway
*Huntsville - Rocket Center
*Memphis - Graceland, Civil Rights and Ride the Duck
*Corinth just stayin over night so we can get to Memphis early.
*Nashville not sure.
*Atlanta thinking of CNN tour and World of Coca Cola not sure what else
there is to do there.

*We are driving to them places because we didn't want to be stuck in a
plane... plus we can see more of your country by driving, think of all
the little places that aren't tourist places where we will stop.

Oh, that's great! Lots of time in Anaheim and Orlando.

So for Anaheim, depending on your interests:

* 2-3 days at Disneyland and California Adventure
* Knott's Berry Farm (older than Disneyland)
* Sea World in San Diego
* The San Diego Zoo and/or Wild Animal Park (although since you're
going to WDW, you might get your fix at Animal Kingdom)
* Griffith Park Observatory
* Hollywood (a movie at Disney's El Capitan Theatre with lunch or
dinner or ice cream at their soda fountain next door is fun)
* Museums: Getty, Norton Simon, etc.

I'm sure we can come up with more ideas if you have specific interests.

Where are you staying at Disney World? I might have some specific tips
about things to do at your resort. It's entirely possible to spend
weeks there and still not see everything (there's lots more than the
theme parks), but of course, there's also Sea World, Universal Studios,
etc. in the Orlando area.

Feel free to ask Disney-specific questions on alt.disney.disneyland
and rec.arts.disney.parks.
