Default best area in Paris to spend 4 days is?????

I have researched like a maniac and still can't figure out the best
area to settle down and enjoy the sights Paris has to offer. Is it
that all of Paris is exceptional? I see that $125.00 US is adequate
for a hotel per night but wanted to narrow it down to a area that is
easily accessible from the train (chunnel) from London. Your advice is
most welcome!! The Latin Quarter? Perhaps near the Eiffel tower? ANY
recommendations would be appreciated. TIA

Go to any place near the RER (regional subway) that goes through the Gare du
Nord station (maps available at www.ratp.fr). Don't stay near the station,
it's an ugly neighborhood.

What part of town you choose for a hotel in Paris makes very little
difference. Paris has the greatest transportation system of any city in the
world with 14 Metro (subway) lines, 5 RER lines,(regional rail lines)and an
all encompassing bus system. You can quickly and easily get to any place in
town from any place in town for very little money especially if you buy one
of the various transit passes. Also since Paris is a compact city you can
easily cover a big part of the city on foot if you locate anywhere at all
near the central city. I get a kick out of the countless people who spend so
much time worrying about where to locate and what hotel to choose as though
it were a critical life's choice.

I always stay in the 7th not far from the Seine where it is quiet and
comfortable and a quick Metro ride to anyplace I want to go. I'm there all
of 8 hours a day and the rest of the time I am all over Paris.

I'll add one thing to this. I like to look for a hotel within a couple
blocks of major metro stop like Sebastopol/St. Denis (it has three
lines intersecting). This makes it even easier and faster to get to any
point in the city.

Personally I enjoy the Luxembourg Quarter the most. I like all the narrow
streets and walkways lined with countless restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and
shops. In my opinion it's best to stay relatively close to City Island/Notre
Dame for easy access to the rest of Paris.

Paris is a physically small city. You can stay just about anywhere
within the city limits and everything will be accessible, so don't
worry. There are Métro stations _everywhere_.

As you point out, Paris has the best mass transportation in the world;
and people who have never seen it don't realize how irrelevant location
really is for a visit. They always ask "is this close to a subway
station," not realizing that _everything_ is close to a subway station
in Paris.

Then again, some people are so afraid of the subway that they will take
a taxi everywhere in Paris.
