Default Beach Island State Park (NJ)

Has anyone been here? It appears to be a very quiet, secluded place along
the shore unlike Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant. I'm searching for a place
to visit that isn't crowded with tourists.

Many thanks,

Island Beach State Park is just that. It's a State Park, there's no
lodging or camping permitted. For close proximity you would need to
procure lodging in Seaside Park (not Heights) or Berkley Twp. These are
primarily family locations. Not that many motels, mostly vacation
rentals and year round residents. During the Summer months Island Beach
State Park sees high volume traffic from "day trippers" driving
everything from Harley-Davidson to those vacation residences on wheels.
Most of the park is a nature preserve. Swimming is creamed into a few
guarded beach areas.

If you want to experience the NJ Shore at it's least crowded, visit
during the first two weeks of September. That's when the ocean water is
the warmest. Sometimes sun and land temperature cooperates remaining
sunny in the eighties, sometimes you need someone to stand at the edge
of the water with a warm bathrobe for when you get out. Nevertheless all
the Summer revelers are gone by then. The boardwalks at Seaside Hts.
and Pt. Pleasant beach are only operational on a very limited basis on
weekends. Only those businesses that cater to year round residents
remain open. Still, off season you can find lots of bargains as regards
hotels, motels and restaurants.
