LONG BEACH - A quick question
I grew up in Long Beach. CA and still live in the L.A. area. As a little kid, I stood on the Vincent Thomas Bidge and watched them tow the Queen Mary to it's permanent berth in the LB harbor. Soon after the Spruce Goose was installed next door. I am looking forward next weekend (Feb 25th) to going down to San Pedro and seeing the giant new Queen Mary 2 at the big cruise ship dock there. I know the Spruce Goose is long gone from next to te old QM. I've noticed there will occasionally be a cruise ship docked where the Goose used to be. What ships dock there? At a guess - is it Disney lines only? It's too bad the QM2 won't be able to 'park' next to it's famous older sister - that'd be quite a sight! Perhaps the QM2 can't dock there, due to it's size? And, is it true the QM2 is too large to go thru the Panama Canal? |

And, is it true the QM2 is too large to go thru the Panama Canal? I think that only Carnival Corp ships can dock there as Carnival paid for the facilities. That means that the QMII can dock there if there is room. Carnival owns Cunard. OTOH, the size of the QMII may prevent that. |

LONG BEACH - A quick question
Andrew,
The dock at San Pedro, at the base of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, and the dock in Long Beach, at the Queen Mary, are two totally different cruise ship docks. They are actually separated from one another by a 20 minute drive. The dock at the Queen Mary uses the old Spruce Goose dome as the terminal for Carnival Cruise lines. The other lines still use the dock in San Pedro. However, since Cunard is indeed technically owned by Carnival Cruise Lines, I am not sure if she will dock in Long Beach or San Pedro. Yet, if you do wait in San Pedro, by the Vincent Thomas Bridge, and she docks in Long Beach instead, you will never see her. The two docks are too far away from one another to see both at the same time. Naturally, this would be something to check on. Maybe other readers will know for sure. Of course, you would think that she would want to dock next to the original Queen Mary (Long Beach) for nostalgia purposes, but I don't know what's really planned. Hi John, The QM2 will be doing her turnarounds at the Port of LA (San Pedro). The ceremonies and celebration are detailed in my earlier press release postings. They are available by Googling or by checking the News section of my web site. Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com |

I did a search on Dogpile to see what had happened to it and found the website http://www.aafo.com/goose/. Seems it's at Evergreen International Aviation in McMinville, Oregon. -- Face your fears.
