Thu 16/04/09 14:26 - Belgium will not be asking the European Commission to allow it to extend restrictions on the rights to her work here of citizens from the countries that joined the European Union in 2004. The decision was made by the Federal Government last week and is the subject of an article in Thursday’s edition of the Francophone daily “La Libre Belgique”. From 1 May this year, citizens of Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungry and the Czech Republic will be no longer require a work permit to be able to come and work in Belgium. “It’s a good thing” The Chairman of the small business association UNIZO Karel Van Eetvelt (photo) says that he is pleased with the news. He told journalists that “It’s a good thing”. However, he added that he is disappointed that Romanian and Bulgarian nationals will still require a work permit to come and work in Belgium. These restrictions are likely to remain in place until the end of 2011. |
