Default Over-sixties travel perks

I just read that London Transport has free bus travel for the
over-sixties. Is this for everyone or just for residents? What other
perks can you scoop up in London by waving your passport? Museums?
Theatres? Saunas? Sexclubs?

UK Residents only (and it's only London residents who get free train travel)

Most places that offer what is now politically correctly called
"concessions" offer that price to anyone over 60 or 65 (plus lots of other
categories)

Yes, I just found the website. It seems a little unfair- you can get a
German Rail Bahncard at half price just on evidence of age.

Well.... There are a range of travel discounts on offer to those of us
over 60 in the UK. For instance, I have a free pass (it cost me nothing)
which allows me free off peak BUS travel anywhere in England because I am a
resident. I also have a pass that I purchased which gives me 1/3rd off the
cost of many railway tickets anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales. The
terms
http://www.senior-railcard.co.uk/buy...rms-conditions
simply say you have to be over 60 - nothing about being a resident or even a
UK citizen. http://www.senior-railcard.co.uk/are...le/eligibility
says you can buy online if you have a UK Passport or Driving Licence but if
you buy at a station it only says Birth Certificate, Valid Passport or Valid
Driving Licence.

You can get the (normal), commercially funded, paid for discount card in the
UK too

What you don't get is free travel paid for out of eveyone elses taxes taxes.

You expected free travel? It is paid for out of the council tax.

I had a cheap BahnCard50 about five years ago which I got at the
Koeln Bahnhof for euro 100 just based on my passport. It was a
really great money saver since it provdied 50% off fares for me,
my wife and our small daughter. it only covers the holder
nowadays.

In Denmark I found that even tourists could get the over-65 reduced rate
on buses. And get reduced admission to museums.

Foreigners get 65+ reductions in UK too, what they don't get is FREE travel.

On the other hand in Lombardy access to reduced rate season cards for
public transport (aged persons) is only for residents in the region.

I'm not sure about (free) access to museums (at least state-owned ones
in Italy). It should be free for under 18 and over 6x (60 or 65 ... I do
not know, my guinea pig is over 85 :-)). It might be that is reserved to
EU citizens. I recently read in a newspaper a complaint of a teacher
who was accompanying some school kids of her class. Some of them were
children of foreigners resident in Italy ... those from EU countries got
free access, the other had to pay.

It would be discrimination otherwise. All EU students pay the same fees
at UK universities.
