Bangkok - Bagan trip

I think the policy is that you can't export images of Thai Bhuddas, but that the Thais import Cambodian Bhuddas which you are free to export! Anyone else who knows for sure, please confirm or clarify? A quick Google search turned up an authoratative source: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/837.php Well that certainly sets my mind at rest! I have been waiting for the knock on the door... "'ello, 'ello, 'ello, wot 'ave we got 'ere? Two loverly little Buddhas! Come along wiv me now..." (best cockney bobby voice I can do.) :-) |

If you are an American traveling in Thailand, just avoid talking
politics with jobless, drunk, socialist, pennyless Eurotrash backpackers on Khao Sarn Road. They are increadbly jealous of Americans. |

Bangkok - Bagan trip
There are direct flights from Bangkok to Chaing Mai on Thai Air...
No alrline seems to fly the Chiang Mai-Bagan route that I can see. There are flights between Yangon (Rangoon) and Chiang Mai via Air Mandalay (http://www.airmandalay.com/) on Sundays, and also a flight from Chiang Mai to Mandalay on Thursdays, but Air Mandalay doesn't seem to offer any flight from Mandalay to Chiang Mai directly. If you go to Mandalay, you could drive or fly to Bagan (1/2 hour flight or maybe a 6-hour drive?) or take a ferry down the Irrawadi River to Bagan, which would be scenic and relaxing but may take a day. The flight between Yangon and Bagan is about an hour. The quickest way from Chiang Mai to Bagan would be through Yangon (or shorten the yangon flight by leaving out of Bangkok via Thai Airways), which would involve 4 flights and would end up requiring about 4 days all together. If you opted for that itinerary, you might as well add an extra day in Yangon to see the Shwedagon Pagoda, Scott Market (Bogyoke Zei) and perhaps the Reclining Buddha or Sule Pagoda, with dinner at the Karaweik Restaurant on Royal Lake (Kandaw Gyi)to take in the cultural show along with the meal. Lesson No 1, NEVER talk politics of any sorts with anybody when visiting a

Mike Sorry to disagree I don't see any reason why you shouldn't talk about politics with people. But of course, like in all circumstances and about any subject, you need to do that with some tact. In many cases, talking about politics and politicians can create be a very uniting feeling Lesson nr 1: first listen to people, then talk to people |

Not talking about what everyone else is talking about kind of comes across like one is a lobotomy victim. edwardseco couldn't agree more Never project your own (maybe brainwashed) view on a real situation in a foreign country. |
