Default Singapore + Malaysia in March ?

Hi!

Busses in Malaysia are great. Long-Dsitance busses are 24 / 25 seater on
full size. This is like business class seats on planes. They are really
cheap as well. Only AC is very cold.

Train is expensiv.

Regards Hans

Hi,

I am thinking of doing my first trip to Singapore and Malaysia in early
March. I will be traveling from / returning to Bangkok.

My idea was to get a flight to Singapore and work my way back to South
Thailand over land (alternatively the other way round). Altogether I will
have about 3 weeks time.

I am not sure whether I should travel up the East coast or West coast.
Will the rainy season be finished along the East coast in March?

I guess it is possible to get comfortable buses like in Thailand, or
should I get the train?

Cheers, Ernst.

On the other hand, air travel using AirAsia could be very much
relatively cheaper than bus and train. Though that there's that
commute from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Kuala Lumpur, the
whole trip itself could be quite expensive.

Anyway, the train for the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur is quite preferable,
but only if it's the deluxe "Selesa" class on the night train (the
"Senandung Malam" train). That way, you could travel and have a quite
comfortable accomodation for the night in the same time.

Bus is definitely better than train. I did the overland trip from
Singapore to Bangkok and back entirely by bus, visiting Penang,
Phuket, Bangkok on the way north, then Koh Samui and Hatyai on the way
south.

For the first time visitor, I would recommend Malacca, Kuala Lumpur,
Cameron Highlands, Penang, Phuket which are all along the west coast.
However if you love beaches the east coast islands are wonderful. Or
if you want to experience the world's oldest rainforest you should
consider Taman Negara, and if you are fit, Gunung Tahan. It is
fantastic to soak in a natural pool under a waterfall surrounded by
dense tropical jungle.
