Alaska Cruise
My friend and I booked a 2 week Caribbean cruise with Carnival over
three years ago, every year something has come up in the winter months causing us to delay it to next winter. Now it looks like there will be a problem this year too. Carnival's Alaska trips don't have the same appeals as some of the other cruise lines (Princess is the one we are looking at now). Does anyone have reasons to recommend any other lines for the months Jan, Feb? We would like to budget less than $2800 per person. Thanks for any suggestions, even if it is just to stay with Princess. |

Are there cruises to Alaska in the winter? Not with the traditional cruise lines! If you can find something that time of year, it will most likely be a small ship cruise or a charter. -- Ray +++++++++++++++++++++++ www.CompressorStuff.com |

Me too. I have never been on cruise but I suppose that a typical Alaska cruise in the winter will be quite expensive. Also we have two little kids and I suppose that is not the most appropriate vacation. You are probably right about the two little kids. Winter temperatures are brutal so you need to stay inside in the nice cozy ship. They have four seasons in Alaska... almost winter, winter, more winter and road construction. And out on the water can feel like it is colder than it is. No fun for kids. But as for the expense, it is actually cheaper to do a winter cruise than to do a warmer season cruise. The trick is finding the small ships. They don't advertise very well. It took me several tries to find a site that listed several cruise companies at: http://www.visitwildalaska.com/Small_Ship_Cruises -- Ray +++++++++++++++++++++++ www.CompressorStuff.com |

We were with a group and so didn't have a say in the schedule. While we enjoyed it, the cruise was 7 days round trip from Vancouver. If we did it again, I would want a cruise that only went one way and then take another form of transportation the other way. |

We preferred doing a number of days ahead of time in Vancouver instead of up in Danali. But we've already seen Tundra in the northern parts of Norway, and I camped in the Rockies during my youth, so time in Vancouver was a higher attraction. |

We flew into Seattle, spent a couple of days there, took the ferry to Victoria and then the ferry to Vancouver. I think we spent 3 nights in each place. |
