Default Altiplano in Argentina and Bolivia

Hello,

I'm planning to go to the Altiplano, in the northern Argentina and southern
Bolivia for trekking. Do you know where I could find accurate maps? I'd
rather avoid to experience the same situation than Gerry... (the superb
movie of Gus Van Sant).

Do you know a book about trekking in this area, like "Backpacking in Chile
and Argentina"?

Thank you.

Use Google browser, write "trekking Salta", "trekking Jujuy",
"trekking Sucre", "trekking Argentina", "trekking Bolivia",
"Backpacking in Chile
and Argentina", and so, and you will find thousands of sites. See this
sample:

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/reve.de.voyage/6eme_page.htm

It was found through "trekking Sucre".

The same for maps. Best maps of Argentina at the Instituto Geografico
Militar (scientifically made), aerophotogrametric charts, satellite
charts, etc.; second best at the Automóvil Club Argentino
(touristical and focused on roads).

Ŕ tout ŕ l'heure,

Oscar

As for Bolivia, Our efforts in 2000 to find any decent maps other than road
maps proved fruitless. We tried in Potosí, Sucre, Cochabamba and La Paz but
each time drew a blank as always the 'official' sources were closed. We
were alsp tod by book/maps sellers that it was impossible and that not even
they could get them.

Hilary Bradt wrote a book called 'Back Packing and Trekking in Peru anad
Bolivia', Bradt Publications, UK., The Globe Pequot Press Inc, usa.
We have this book and found it useful.
There is another book by same author on Chile and Argentina.
