It takes how long?

no idea.

Do you realise that you pay for every incoming call
whether you want the call or not

Yep, I only switch it on to make the odd booking or phone home.

IMHO, that just defeats the purpose of having a mobile phone. I can always
stop and use a pay phone to make calls. A mobile is so that other people can
reach me if they need to.

People vary in their use of the mobile phone. I often don't answer my
phone- I can get back to people when it suits me.

You're following up to a post of mine. I don't have a clue what you are
talking about.

Understood. An in-law of mine hangs up her cell phone by pressing the on/off
button. Her phone is only on when she is calling someone else. To each, his
own.

15 seconds

The physical change, what about all the other aggro?

Voice mail still piles up :-)

I never get more than one or two calls a day by mobile, not an
issue.

Different people have mobiles for different reasons.
When travelling we prefer not to stop and mess about finding a
pay phone and a pace to park and you cant be rung back on a pay
phone.

A mobile is so that other people can
reach me if they need to.

That's just what I try to avoid.
For me once a day is enough generally , I don't feel the need to
be contactable every minute of the day while on holiday. If its
important a message will be left. In fact given I don't use the
phone when driving because its dangerous and its off when at home
or in restaurants etc, 90% of people probably have to leave a
message. Stopping and listening to a message is much better than
live, you can reply when it suits you, maybe not at all. I
usually only answer it "live" on those occasions when i'm
planning to rendezvous with someone or its kept on for a possible
response, otherwise it becomes master not slave.

A friend of mine drove 50 miles to the start of a walk with the
message it was cancelled on his switched off phone.

This works less than excellently in Scandiwegia, where mobiles have
long been a necessity of life.

A mobile is so that other people can reach me if they need to.

I generally declare myself unnecessary for the duration of holidays.
