Flying on the day of the cruise departure
We are booked on the Feb 22 sailing of Celebrity Solstice. Because we are
always worried about weather or mechanical problems we always travel a day before the cruise. Our children have decided to fly out of Montreal on Feb 22 at 7 AM and arrive at FLL at 10:30 AM. The cruise departs at 4:30 PM. Are they taking a large chance that they may miss their cruise because of late arrival at FLL? -- Harvey Levy ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com ** |

Flying on the day of the cruise departure
Are they taking a large chance that they may miss their cruise because of
late arrival at FLL? Not if everything is on schedule. FLL is about a 15 min. taxi ride to Port Everglades. Maybe Mr. Murphy will be on vacation that day. |

Are they taking a large chance that they may miss their cruise because of late arrival at FLL? I've done it, but only with a short flight during good weather, and with several alternative flights available. I wouldn't try an international flight from snow country in February. They'll need to be at the pier by 2:30, so there's not a huge margin of error. |

But... (and we've had it happen to us a number of years ago)... if they can't do anything about it, then check the ship's itinerary. Unless it's a transatlantic crossing (which it most likely won't be in Feb), find out the next port of call. The time we had it happen, we met the ship 6:00 am the following morning (the ship sailed from San Juan, PR to St. Croix). If they miss the ship, the airline will most likely get them to the next port - that's what American did for us, back then - they put us on the American Eagle hopper to St. Croix. If worse comes to worse, they will have to meet the ship at the first port. And in this instance, it's probably a good idea to have travel insurance. And make sure both of you have cell phones. If there are any delays, stay in touch in the morning. If the flight takes off.... they it's a good bet that they'll arrive in the appropriate amount of time. A flight like that won't likely lose any time once it gets in the air. It's delays on the ground you'll be most concerned about. --Tom |

If they have to change planes then they increase their chances of weather affecting their flight's timing. |
