Air France from Aberdeen, Scotland (ABZ) - Tokyo (NRT)
I have an opportunity to fly Air France round-trip on the above-noted
routing at what would appear to be the unbelievable price of ~ £480, inclusive of taxes and airport charges. The flight is routed via Paris (CDG) and will be in economy class. While I have no problem flying economy from ABZ to CDG, it may prove to be an awfully long flight in either direction between France and Japan at the back of the plane. Should anyone reading this have done really long-non stop flights on Air France before, please share your experiences with me. I have flown Air France on short European hops once before and found them to be perfectly acceptable, but I don't know what to expect on long-haul international flight with them. Thanks in advance! |

I have flown Air France on short European hops once before and found them to be perfectly acceptable, but I don't know what to expect on long-haul international flight with them. It'll be the same as any other longhaul (NRT is virtually ultra-long haul at almost 12 hours outbound and closer to 13 on the way back) in economy class - pretty awful. I've travelled from London to Tokyo twice, once on BA, once on Virgin, and they were both pretty dire - the BA was perhaps slightly better because at the time (1991) they had economy seating on the upper deck of the 747 and it was a little nicer than the main deck. However, a trip of that length in economy is never all that nice. AF operate both 777s and 747s depending on the day of the week and time of day. My personal preference would strongly be for a 777 against a 747 - more modern, more likely to have decent in-flight entertainment, and for some reason it seems more comfortable to me. Others may differ. This site may help: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/af.htm Air France's seat pitch is listed at 31" on www.uk-air.net and other sites, which is the same as most European carriers. This is not fabulous if you are taller than about 5'8" but probably no worse than any other airline in Economy. It could be worse - at least you're not contemplating travel on BA. |
