Default Newbie Question - Cruise Lingo, ships etc...

Hi all,

I want to take my wife for a Boston to Bermuda 7 night on NCL Majesty
this May for our Anniversary. I dinna know much about cruises, having
only been once about 15 years ago.

Having read the group for a couple of days, I see the word "Guarantee"
and "Upgrade" in alot of the threads. Can anyone explain these? I
thought you "Guarantee" when you send the money? Are they linked to
upgrades somehow?

I was just a kid when I went on the last cruise, so I never got to do
any of the "fun" stuff, so I am feeling excited about this one.

Also, seems like there are only a few dozen cabins on each deck for my
selected dates. Does that mean we came late and will get a lousy
cabin... Not that it is really important, but I'd like to get as good
as I can...

Thanks & regards!

Freddie

BTW: Congrats for being one of the more civilized(sp?) newsgroups on
usenet.

A "guarantee" is a reservation without a specific cabin number. You are
guaranteed to get a specific category or better. If you get a better
category you've been "upgraded." On some cruise lines you'll know your cabin
a couple of weeks before the cruise. On others you'll learn your cabin
number when you get to the pier.

My best advice is to find a good travel agent, sit down with him or her, and
ask every question you can think of.

There are many here with much more cruising experience than me. I'll let them
answer your questions. I just want to say that you've made a great choice and
you are both going to love it! No matter what ship/cabin/itinerary you choose
you will have a wonderful time. Be sure to tell us all about it when you
return.

One more time, Malevolent Michelle, your Google crap is getting lame.

Let me 'splain to you how this newsgroup works.

If someone asks a question and you know the answer, you reply with the
answer, but if someone asks a question and you don't know the answer, which
in your case seems to be every post, how about you don't post anything at
all.
