Default Buying travel gear in Thailand?

Is it easy to get these things there? I need some *good* sandals (not
cheapo plastic stuff that'll last for a couple of days), a pair of
shorts some kind of pouch/money belt or whatever and probably some other
things that I can't remember right now.

Others may have had better experiences, but I always seem to find that I
have two choices:

1) Buy something at an astonishingly cheap price that falls apart
immediately, or

2) Buy something at the same price I'd pay for it here in the USA (made in
Thailand!) that is good quality.

As USA prices are cheaper than Norwegian prices, you may still be better off
waiting. But don't be too excited about the really dirt cheap stuff.

Is it easy to find shops selling stuff like this (good sandals, travel

I currently have no idea where I'll be staying in Bangkok, but I suppose
I'll be directed to that "backpacker street" place (forgot the name) and
I imagine that the same street might sell a lot of that kind of stuff,
right?

Lots of stuff sold on Khao San Road but the quality is uneven. Probably
makes more sense to head into the center of town where middle-class Thais go
shopping.
