Personal stirling cheque as Italian deposit?
wrote in message ... In article , (Alec) wrote: "The Reid" wrote in message ... Rather than usual credit card details Italain hotel is asking for deposit in form of a £ stirling cheque. Seems odd? (credit card acceptable for balance) I have come across this too in Italy, and US visitors are asked to send a cheque in dollars. Willingness to accept the cheque is a nice gesture, but what seems odd (unless I misunderstood the OP) is *not* accepting a credit card for the deposit. I have come across this too, both in Spain and Italy. They wanted me to send a cheque in euro (money order?), when they actually take credit cards for face-to-face transactions. Apparently it messes up their accounting system to process card deposits by phone, mail or even on-line. It's a 'pain' (so I'm told) to get the money paid by card companies when they can't swipe the card in person. This only happened with small hotels and campsites. Perhaps big hotels with large card turnover get treated differently. Alec |
