Comments on BBH?
Hello,
I found a chain of hostels called Budget Backpackers Hostels from New Zealand. The web page is quite convincing... Anybody has personal experience from staying with them? Thanks. Iwona |

Comments on BBH?
Hi,
I found a chain of hostels called Budget Backpackers Hostels from New Zealand. The web page is quite convincing... Anybody has personal experience from staying with them? Yes. They have a brochure that lists all the places in the network, together with a ranking given by travellers the previous year. I found the ranking and descriptions to be fantastically accurate - more than the LP. I used BBH places whenever I could. Can't recommend that brochure more highly. Ralph |

You will find them all different to one another. I stayed in one a month ago in a converted woolshed. I liked it, but some of the people were wanting something more up-market. And, most of these backpacker hotels _are_ more up-market. Backpacker hostels also average NZD$20/night vs. NZD$15/night a few years ago. |

Comments on BBH?
We just got back from a trip to NZ. We used BBH hostels exclusively.
They were in general great. A few were a little bit substandard but most were very good. I can especially recommend a place called Moana Lodge in Plimmerton which is just N of Wellington and also a place called Beaconstone which is on the W coast of the S Island. This last place is a small totally solar powered and water collected from the rain. It is worth a detour. Buy a BBH card when you first arrive. It is NZ$40 but gives you discounts and also a $20 calling card. |
