Default trenitalia booking question

This is an obscure one. Maybe Barbara or Luca will know.

We're a party of 5 looking to buy tickets--and Trenitalia will sell them
online, so that people can print them at home.

The only 'discount' I can find that is applicable is the Oferta Famiglia,
which will allow one child under 12 to travel free with two paying adults.
That would mean actually only paying for four seats. But when I try to
book it, the website will indeed sell three seats for the price of two--but
only as one transaction--there is no provision for booking two more seats in
the same transaction, so that the 3 and 2 can get reservations and sit
together. Is there any way seat assignments in two separate bookings to
be together when booking online?

Are there any other things to watch out for when booking tickets online at
Trenitalia?

Never actually tried to book so many tickets in a single time, but it
looks it is possible.

First, choose the train you want and click on the shopping basket. In
the next page, showing the details of the train and making you choose
how many ticket you want, there is a line "per altre tariffe, sconti e
promozioni": click on "clicca qui".

The special offers page opens: select two places "intera" in the left
column *and* three places with "offerta famiglia" in the right column.
This should give you four adults paying and a free child in a single
reservation. Choose the class, first or second (selezionare la classe)
and go on.

I didn't finalize my try, but it looks it is possible.
