Default Halong Bay to become one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World

Campaigners for Halong Bay Vietnam to become one of the Seven Wonders
of the Modern World are today, on National Heritage Day 2007,
exhibiting the most interesting and rare features of the natural world-
heritage site.

Along with offering visitors a chance to vote for the Halong bay, the
three day event is holding an exhibition comprised of 100 large scale
photos, miniatures of the site made of sand, maps and other objects to
illustrate why UNESCO is naming it a world heritage site for the
second time.

Whilst the festival is showcasing aesthetic, geographical, ecological
and historical artefacts - all of which have made the hidden bay a
must-see destination - works of art are also on display, including a
photography exhibition, in which photographers have attempted to
capture new perspectives of the thousand islands and interlacing caves
which make up the bay.

What's more, artisans from craft villages nationwide are promoting the
folkloric and natural wealth of the region with traditional hand-made
products. Visitors can admire Vietnamese creativity through Bat Trang
ceramics, a collection of clay dragon eggs, and embroideries, all
figuring Halong Bay Vietnam.

Not to miss the opportunity, travel agents and hotels are flooding the
event with leaflets and other tourist products to help boost their
already successful trade.

Apart from cultural activities, more than 100 scientists are gathering
at the event to discuss how to at once promote and preserve the bay.

Following the nomination of Halong Bay by the New Open World
Foundation two months ago, organisers have set aside a space for
visitors to vote directly via computers.

Moreover, to encourage voting, they've rolled out a draw with 20 grand
prizes of two-day tours to discover the bay's hidden charm.

A 32m canvas depicting the bay, drawn by 1,000 Hanoi children last
Monday is also on display at the exhibition.
