If so, that is a long way from your original destination of Park Avenue. That depends. Park Avenue and where? From the Port Authority Bus Terminal to Park Avenue and 42nd St. is only about a ten minute walk. I used to commute into NYC on a bus that arrived at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. I would walk to and from it every day (unless it was raining) to my office at Park Avenue and 50th St.--about a 20 minute walk. Depending on the circumstances, going cross town can be surprisingly challenging. If you have luggage, you probably will want to take a cab rather than walking or taking a city bus. If I were going somewhere on Park Avenue close to Grand Central Terminal, I would choose the train over the Greyhound bus even it it did cost more. I wouldn't. Besides its being an easy walk, if you didn't want to walk, the cost of the Greyhound bus plus a taxi is almost certainly considerably less expensive than the train which he said costs twice as much as the bus. -- Ken Blake Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

IF I read the map correctly it's about a mile which is more like 20 minutes. If one is carrying luggage that's a tiring walk. The subject line says First Avenue, so I don't think Park is the desired destination. One would have to take a crosstown bus, and they run slow due to traffic on 42nd st. |

I have been on Greyhound buses, and I have taken commuter trains into GCT (althouh it was on the Hudson line and not the New Haven line). I was also factoring in the more pleasant experience and more timely arrivals/departures on the train. To me, it is money well spent. If I were encumbered by luggage, I would not consider it an easy walk from the bus terminal to either Park or First. |

Or a taxi. Yes, either would take a few minutes, but certainly not a very long time. ..... depending on the traffic, etc... More than once I've regretted taking a cab in Manhattan for a shortish (~1 mile) trip, even though I had luggage, because road conditions* slowed the cab down so much I would have been better off walking. * traffic / construction / delivery-trucks-completely-blocking-the-street -Miles -- Accord, n. Train will be nearly an hour longer and cost twice as much. Thank you for all your advices. "Train will be nearly an hour longer and cost twice as much."
